Rachel Knapp can be described as one of the hardest working journalists. Her love for journalism has led her to cover stories from the heart of the nation's capital to chasing hurricanes and covering the war in Ukraine.
Rachel is currently based in Washington, D.C. as a Correspondent for Lilly Broadcasting TV and radio stations. She mostly covers Congress but if there is an angle or opportunity for a unique story, Rachel most likely has already pitched it to her team and began working on the piece.
She is not afraid to tackle any story.
Rachel was born and raised in Austin, Texas! Following the great news anchor Walter Cronkite, she attended the University of Texas. During her undergraduate studies, I got an internship at Fox News Austin. That reporting internship reaffirmed her dreams of working in broadcast news.
Before she jumped into my journalism career, she was a "fille au pair" (nanny) to triplet boys in a neighborhood outside of Paris, France.
Rachel has picked up reporting jobs in local TV markets all over the US. From Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and now Washington, D.C. She has not only been a reporter, but she has also filled in as an anchor, put together investigative pieces that have gained international and national attention and was the station's only legislative reporter during her time in New Mexico. Her work covering politics landed her a spot in one of the most sought out reporting places: Washington, D.C.
She earned her master's degree in international relations from Norwich University in June 2021. She pursued this because she wanted to expand her knowledge of foreign policy. Her concentration was on U.S. foreign policy and Africa. She researched corruption issues impacting Africa and analyzed any loopholes African states could fix to help prevent corruption such as bribery, money laundering and election fraud.
Rachel loves journalism more than anything and is thankful to be living out her dream each day.
I pitch, edit, video and report live for broadcast TV stations. I make valuable connections with federal, state, local and other community leaders. I can quickly respond to breaking news and ad lib at the scene. I seek out stories that will benefit viewers about current events around them.
My work has sparked federal investigations and uncovered truths about dealings that have an impact on the community and the state.
When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Rachel pitched going there to cover the war. She first went with a photographer to Poland to cover the refugee crisis soon after the invasion. Months later, Rachel returned to Europe. This time, she was reporting on the war from Ukraine. Here are some videos of that work:
